Liquid Chemical Feed Rate Calculator

Need to determine the per-minute feed requirements or total daily feed requirement of a liquid chemical? For wastewater operators, a liquid feed rate calculator is an essential tool. Input your target dose, treated volume, percentage of the active chemical and its specific gravity, and you’ll instantly get the volume and weight of the solution, as well as the weight of the active chemical within your treatment environment. Use per-minute or total daily to best approximate the optimal liquid feed rate for your wastewater agent.

This is a plug-and-play calculator that’s free to use. Just input your variables, choose your desired method of measurement and the calculator will do the rest!

This calculator can be used to calculate both the per minute feed requirements or total daily feed requirement of a liquid chemical. See below the results for examples.

Per minute example:

Target dose 2.0 ppm

Treated volume 5 gallons (assume this is a per minute flow value of 5 gpm through a pipe)

Assume % active is bleach at 6%

SG (specific gravity) let’s assume 1.1

All the results will be a per minute dosage value of raw 6% chemical to achieve 2.0 ppm in moving fluid so that is 0.02 fluid ounces fed per minute.

Total treated volume example:

For Example: mixing a batch of chemical in a feed tank:

Target dose 10.0 ppm

Treated volume 50 gallons (assume this is a per minute flow value so 5 gpm)

% active, let’s say bleach at 6%

SG (specific gravity) let’s assume 1.1

All the results will be total amount of chemical to add to 50 gallons to make a 10 ppm bulk solution mixture in this case 1.17 fluid ounces is required.

Note: it is most likely easier to make all these calculations in metric for smaller volume or flow values.
